The Good Skin Company offer skin tag removal treatments from our Hampton Hill Clinic, serving Richmond, Twickenham & Teddington in South West London, for people who are suffering from this condition.

Skin tags are small flesh-coloured or brown growths that hang on the skin.  They’re very common and harmless.  Skin tags can vary in size from a few millimetres up to 5cm wide.

They’re usually found on the neck, armpits, around the groin, or under the breasts. They can also grow on the eyelids.

Anyone can develop skin tags. Pregnant women may be more likely to develop skin tags, caused by changes in their hormone levels. Some people develop them for no apparent reason.  Skin tags tend to grow where skin rubs against skin or clothing.

Skin tags are harmless and don’t usually cause pain or discomfort.

However, you may want to consider getting them removed if they are unsightly and affect your self-esteem, or if they snag on clothing or your jewellry and can cause bleeding.

Sometimes, skin tags fall off on their own if the tissue has twisted and died from a lack of blood supply.

Removing skin tags

If a skin tag is upsetting you, consider making an appointment with a private clinic to have it removed.  Skin tags can easily be frozen off.  Liquid nitrogen application will feel like a strong biting pinch for about 3 seconds. The pain quickly fades and is much better within 15 minutes. As the skin thaws out, the chilled nerves will recover function at different rates. Depending on the size of the tag, if we don’t think this approach is possible we will advise you appropriately.

If you wish to have your skin tags removed, your first step should be to arrange a consultation with us at The Good Skin Company, as the size and location of the tag will help determine the best removal method.

Treatment is quick and easy, with a wide range of removal options available; Cryotherapy in which the offending tag is frozen off using liquid nitrogen is a very popular option.

Cryotherapy is one of the best methods of safely removing skin tags

Once removed, they will no longer snag on clothing or jewelry

There is minimal pain when removing the skin tags

I came to this clinic with acne I have lived with for 25 years, which included my neck and upper chest and back. After an initial and in depth consultation, I started to use a trio of topical lotions, 1 to clean, 1 to exfoliate and the last was a moisturiser. A month has passed and I am very pleased with the appearance on my face, neck and upper body. The acne has stopped forming, the scars are now healing and I have a smile too.

Do‘s & Don’ts for Skin Tags

  • You can continue to use deodorant, perfume and makeup on the treated area. However it is advisable to wait for as long as possible before doing so on the first day of treatment.
  • If the skin being treated is tanned, the area treated with Cryotherapy will re-pigment to the skins original colour.
  • Please wait until the area has finished healing before contacting the clinic for a follow up. This will usually happen within 4 weeks of treatment, however skin sometimes takes longer to heal.

  • Do not pick at the skin tag, as it will take longer to heal. Use sunblock factor 50 on the treated area until it has re-pigmented.
  • Don’t use glycolic acids, Vitamin C, scrubs, Tretinoin (Retin-A), and Retinol creams for 7 to 10 days.

Frequently Asked Quesitons

Skin tags and can be removed by a quick treatment called cryotherapy. The Cryopen is the most effective way of avoiding blisters as it only treats the affected area and not healthy tissue.

Clinic based treatments are conducted under local anaesthetic, and so the treatment should be painless. Laser treatment may cause very slight discomfort, but is usually well tolerated.

After the treatment you may have an itchy or stinging sensation. This is normal and is caused by histamines being released around the treated area. The sensation will disappear within 10-20 min. if a blister forms, do not be concerned. The swelling/blister will go down. The skin tag should slowly darken in colour and fall off completely. If some of the skin in the surrounding area is reddened or feels particularly sensitive it should lessen over the next few days. Other than that, complications are rare and you can go home as soon as your anaesthetic wears off.
